Weekly Review - June 19 to June 25

CRANBOURNE - 19 June 2023

WATCHLIST

ITCHY POWDER looked super when finishing 3rd in Heat 7 on Jun 19 having settled at the rear of the field in the early stages and then powering home down the outside fence under a hold. They didn’t break any records in terms of time and the two that beat her aren’t anything special, but they don’t normally make this sort of ground on the synthetic track as the leaders usually skip away, which adds merit to the run. This was her second jump out having made the switch to the Luke Oliver yard after being purchased for only $3,750, she’s 57-rated so a 0-58 would be perfect first up.

TATURA - 19 June 2023

WATCHLIST

Hard to get much of a guide considering it was a worse than Heavy10 track, but DELICATE BABE finished 2nd in Heat 1 on Jun 19 over the 1450m in a solid bit of work as she was pushed out but finished alongside previous winners. She’s certainly got a maiden win in her on the back of her jump out form and debut race form behind Fancylanski so she’s certainly a mare to follow first up and she should be ready now on the back of two jump outs.

Previously with Maddie Raymond where he had two jump outs including an easy Apr 11 win, BRUNO returned for the Hope stable for a big 7.5L win in Heat 9 on Jun 19. This 2yo gelded son of Press Statement has a friendly on speed leading racing pattern and looks to be a nice mover.

DONALD - 20 June 2023

Another nice jump out from ROLL ON BIG RED, winning Heat 11 on Jun 20 over 850m in the third fastest time of the morning with the 4yo gelding handling the Heavy track fine here as he did in his first big jump out win on Jun 1. Connections have been very patient with this 4yo (and soon to be 5yo) son of Shooting To Win and they look like they’ll be rewarded as he looks a lovely mover with a friendly on speed racing pattern. Quite keen to follow him into his debut, think he goes well.

WATCHLIST

EQUATORI hasn’t shown much in her two career runs to date when 5th (of 6) beaten 7.5L and 6th (of 8) beaten 7.6L, but she’s been given more time since that debut prep and looks to have improved. She stepped out in Heat 10 on Jun 20 where she sat on the outside of the leader before then closing over the top late in a nice win, that other runner being Rudibatootie (9: 1-0-1). Only her first jump out, but it was a nice bit of work.

KILMORE (FLEMINGTON) - 21 June 2023

WATCHLIST

PRINCESS HALO was travelling super and going to win Heat 3 on Jun 21 with ease before she was pulled up and eased out of the jump out, officially finishing 5th of 7 runners. Her first two jump outs were quite similar, the first on May 26 ridden cold out the back and a Jun 9 jump out also ridden quiet but a bit closer. She was actually a previous feature of our reviews following a very very slick Dec 9 jump out and looks a nice mover that could be one that floats under the radar as she has been held back in recent jump outs. Big watch.

PAKENHAM - 21 June 2023

WATCHLIST

Both of John Sadler’s runners in Heat 2 on Jun 21 put in a good performance and they clocked slick time in the process for the 1000m, the fourth fastest overall time we have recorded.

EXPLOSIVE ROSIE won the heat after sitting just off the leaders throughout, put under pressure and shown the whip at the ~200m mark as she took off to the front and won nicely but was a touch green. She’s a speed filly that was a touch disappointing in her debut campaign but she’s been given time and looks to have come back improved.

DUNDANCER did it from the back, settling last before closing nicely after being pushed out and shown the whip. She’s a flashy filly that showed some talent in her debut prep when 4th in all 3x runs but we have seen some nice form come from those races with winners all around her, especially her latest run behind all subsequent winners in Gringotts, El Soleado and Moya Lass. She certainly has a maiden win in her if she can strike the right race.

MORNINGTON - 22 June 2023

WATCHLIST

GRAEWAZI is certainly ready to head to the races now, winning Heat 6 on Jun 22 in super fashion over the 900m to go with his May 24 win 2nd placing on Jun 6. The 3yo gelded son of Our Wazi had plenty of early speed that allowed him to find the front early where he was then put under pressure at the top of the straight, skipping away quite comfortably and opening up a margin with the jockey even having a cheeky look over the shoulder over the concluding stages. He’s going super and looks in good order ahead of his debut where we’d expect him to be competitive.

It was a quiet first jump out for DARK JOURNEY on Jun 6 over only 600m at Pakenham but there was no hiding in his work in Heat 8 on Jun 22 as the son of Needs Further cruised in the lead before really opening up a gap late despite being under next to no jockey pressure. He was only a $25k purchase from the Tasmanian Yearling Sale’s and looks to be quite a value purchase if he can replicate his jump out form on race day.
